Les rencontres is an open and democratic network that aims for a wide representation in Europe. It welcomes all local and regional governing bodies in Europe that wish to put their city or region on the cultural map of Europe. Cultural organisations or national institutions that wish to engage in the debate or set up joint projects can also become associate members. Becoming a member of les rencontres requires commitment to the goals of the network and participation in the conferences organised. The presence of representatives is required at least once a year and we count on members to actively contribute their ideas and suggestions to the running of the network and to the general European debate on Culture. The annual membership fee is defined for each category of local government once a year. These fees cover the calendar year from January to December. Les rencontres relies on payment of membership fees to cover the core costs of the network, however we try and maintain costs as low as possible so that authorities with a limited cultural budget can still join. We ask members to pay their fees at the beginning of the calendar year as soon as the invoice is received. All members receive the programme of events and are kept updated with European news through the website. They receive free publications and reports of the meetings. By paying membership fees, registration fees are reduced. Finally members can join the Committee of les rencontres and take part in the decision making process.
