Istanbul, European Capital of Culture 2010 with Pécs (Hungary) and Essen (Germany), hosted the General meeting of the association, on Friday 4th of June and a public debate on the artistic and cultural life in Istanbul on Saturday 5th of June.

During this meeting, organised in collaboration with the Istanbul2010 ECOC Agency, the French Embassy in Turkey and the French Institute of Istanbul, we addressed the future perspectives of the association and the role that we can play in the international framework.

Judith Staines, resercher and consultant in the cultural sector, and Cengiz Aktar, plolitical scientist and director of the Center for the European Union at the Bahcesehir University in Istanbul, suggested us some strategic courses of actions for the next few years.

During this important rendez-vous of the network, we approved the programme of activities and the memberships fees for 2011 and we elected the Steering Committee.

This meeting also was the occasion to discuss and approve the proposition for the new bylaws of the association, whose revision started in October 2008 during the Assembly meeting in Stavanger.

La rencontre d’Istanbul also offered the opportunity to discover the cultural diversity, the artistic vitality and the emerging art scene of the city. Indeed, on the Saturday morning we dedicated one working session to the artistic and cultural life in Istanbul inviting the artists and local actors.

During the afternoon we organised several cultural visits linked with the morning session. We feel extremely privileged to have discovered or rediscovered the amazing architecture of this city, as well as its cultural dynamism throughout visits, performances and exhibitions!
