Metropolises and Culture

This third meeting of the year will be organised in cooperation with Ruhr2010 GmbH and the City of Essen in the framework of the European Capital of Culture year 2010. After Pécs, Hungary and Istanbul, Turkey, we will be organising a meeting on the topic of cultural metropolises at the heart of the Ruhr area: one of the greatest metropolitan regions in Europe with Lille-Roubaix-Tourcoing, Randstad, Katowice, Manchester or Milan. The stakes of the conference are to investigate the concept of cultural metropolises and the specificities of their cultural policy, with practical examples of projects from Gdansk, Poland, Marseille/Provence, France and the Ruhr, Germany.

European experts, professionals and elected leaders in charge of Culture will take part in a common debate during this meeting: our main event in 2010. In addition to the discussions on the political action in the field of culture and the presentation of examples of good practice, the participants will be given an insight into the artistic programme of Essen for the RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture in the tradition of the network.
