The Association of
European Cities and Regions for Culture “Les Rencontres” is pleased to
announce the organisation of its next conference “La Rencontre de Fontenay-sous-Bois” to be held in Fontenay-sous-Bois
(in the vicinity of Paris) from 05 to 07 March 2015. It will be devoted to the
topical theme of:
“ARTS / CULTURES / MIGRATIONS”
In a growing context
of populist ideas and behaviours as well as inward-looking nationalisms in the
European continent, this conference is aimed towards encouraging participants
to consider migrations as sources for artistic enrichment and cultural impact
for the European societies.
Every country has
been characterised by its own migration history. More and more, migrants are becoming
fundamental pillars of our feeling of multi-cultural citizenship. Thus, it is
necessary to promote a constructive dialogue on cultural differences,
emphasizing their value and their creativity, so as to reinforce social
inclusion and to fight against discrimination and prejudices.
With this in mind,
we organise “La Rencontre de
Fontenay-sous-Bois” in collaboration with the Choreographic Development Centre du Val-de-Marne “La Briqueterie” on the occasion of the 18th
Val-de-Marne Dance Biennale and in the framework of the European project “Migrant bodies”.
Gathering elected leaders and professionals from local and regional authorities, artists, intellectuals, researchers and civil
society representatives, the "European Campus" project's purpose is to think together
and deepen our understanding of current and future topics in the fields of
local and regional cultural policies, cultural cooperation and
artistic creation in Europe and beyond.
The 3rd European Campus of local and regional authorities for
culture took place in the Nord-Pas de Calais Region, France from 5
to 8 November 2014.
The main theme was:
Can Culture and Local and Regional
Authorities Lead Europe Out of the Crisis?

An Inclusive Consultation to Reforge the Organisation
2014 marks the 20th anniversary on the Association. Twenty years of rencontres, of course, but also of exchanges, debates, discoveries and projects.
Twenty years that have created strong bonds between the members of the network.
2014 is a year of renewal for Les Rencontres. The creation of a stable and creative future depends on the analysis of past years and, most importantly, in the case of a network, can only be done collectively.
The Association has started this large re-foundation process, paying a particular attention to the opinions of its members, in order to build a future suitable for all. Without ever questioning the essence of its activities, Les Rencontres wishes to give itself a new lease of life to continue to create bonds, beyond borders, always more effectively.
The Refoundation process is built on a 6 steps calendar. Discussions in Brussels, sending of a questionnaire, gathering of answers, meeting during the Rencontres of Umeå, drafting of new statutes then a General meeting at the European Campus in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and a vote: the re-foundation has run all year. The most recent stage of this process has been the election of a new Chairman: Mr. Michaël Moglia, Regional Councilor, Chairman of the “Finances, Staff, General Administration, Communication” Commission, in the Nord-Pas de Calais Region, France whereas Mr. Roger Tropeano was named the Honorary Chairman of the Association.
